Description

TLS signed “Cole,” one page, 5.25 x 7.25, The Towers of The Waldorf Astoria letterhead, June 12, 1962. Short letter to award-winning lyricist and librettist Alan Jay Lerner, in full: "Thank you so much for the birthday greeting. I was very pleased." In fine condition. Accompanied by a 1962 Western Union Telegram sent by Lerner to Porter ("Please come back to us soon. Life is a lot less gay when you’re not writing”), and a 1961 transmittal letter from Porter's secretary, sending thanks to Lerner on behalf of Porter for a “good letter from Paris,” and offering an update on Porter’s health: “He has been getting along very well there, but still finds difficulty in using his artificial leg.”
