President McKinley offers his condolences to Albert I, Prince of Monaco, on the death of his aunt, “H. M. S. H. the Princess Florestine”

DS as president, one page, 8 x 10, Executive Mansion letterhead, August 31, 1897. President McKinley directs the Secretary of State to cause the Seal of the United States to be affixed to “the envelope containing my letter to the Sovereign Prince of Monaco, touching the death of his aunt, H. M. S. H. the Princess Florestine, Dowager Duchess of Urach Wurtember, etc.” Signed nicely at the conclusion by William McKinley. In fine condition, with a small crease to the lower right corner. Princess Florestine Gabrielle Antoinette of Monaco (1833–1897) was the youngest child and only daughter of Florestan I, Prince of Monaco, and his wife, Maria Caroline Gibert de Lametz. Florestine was a member of the House of Grimaldi and a Princess of Monaco by birth, and a member of the House of Württemberg and Duchess consort of Urach and Countess of Württemberg through her marriage to Wilhelm, 1st Duke of Urach.
