Commodore (1772-1840) in the United States Navy who served in the Quasi-War, The Barbary Wars and the War of 1812. LS signed “I. Chauncey,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, May 18, 1839. Letter to Commodore Charles Stewart, in part: "You will be pleased to ship to the Navy Yard Boston twenty one of the 42 pounder long guns belonging to Gradual Increase at the yard under your command, the remainder of that description of guns, you will please ship to the Navy Yard New York." In fine condition, with two file holes to the left side.
