Description

President Cleveland congratulates the German Emperor on the birth of his nephew, Prince Sigismund of Prussia

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 8 x 10, January 5, 1897. President Cleveland authorizes and directs the "Secretary of State to cause the Seal of the United States to be affixed to an envelope containing my reply to a letter from the German Emperor announcing the birth of a Prince to Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Prussia." Boldly signed at the conclusion in ink by President Grover Cleveland. In fine condition.

Prince Sigismund of Prussia—the nephew of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Tsarina Alexandra of Russia, and the great-grandson of Queen Victoria—was born to Prince Henry of Prussia and Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine on November 27, 1896. A unique and desirable presidential document, formally recognizing the birth of European royalty.

From the Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert.
