Highly regarded French painter (1830–1903), one of the leading figures of the impressionist movement, best known for his distinctive pointillist style. ALS in French, signed 'C. Pissarro,' two pages, 4.5 x 7, April 26, 1901. Letter to his wife Julie. In full (translated): 'I had no problem getting to Moret. Fortunately, I met a farmer who kindly took me to Georges who wasn't expecting me. The weather is wonderful this morning. I've started a number 16 canvas of cherry trees in blossom. The motifs are admirable. If the good weather lasts a while I hope to do a number of fine things. I've just received a postcard from Lucien telling me that the children have arrived. They had great weather and a good crossing. Georges is fine too. How wonderful is his little girl! Write and tell me how you are. I forgot to give Rodolphe the money to pay the taxes in Paris and I think the declaration form is locked up in my desk. I hope they won't annoy us with this. We give you a hug.' In fine condition.
Moret-sur-Loing, here referenced by Pissarro, is a town in north-central France that proved to be a remarkable source of inspiration for the father of the Impressionist movement and his lively and colorful landscape paintings, including his great series of paintings of spring trees in blossom—one of which he mentions here. Desirable artistic references to some of Pissarro’s most memorable creations. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
