Parker and Selznick agree to terms for the Oscar-nominated script of A Star Is Born

DS, signed 'Dorothy Parker' and 'David O. Selznick,' also signed by her husband, Alan Campbell, seven pages, 8.5 x 11, December 9, 1936. Agreement between Selznick and Parker for the script of A Star Is Born. In part: 'The term of your employment hereunder shall begin on such date, during the period of one (1) week following the termination of your employment in connection with our photoplay ‘A Star Is Born,’ as we shall determine, and shall continue for a period of twenty-six (26) weeks thereafter…As full compensation to both of you for your joint services…we agree to pay you a joint salary at the rate of…$1750.00 per week.' In fine condition, with light wrinkling to the pages, an approval stamp on the signed page, and contained within its original light blue folder with three staples and two punch holes along the left side.

Parker and her much younger husband made for a successful screenwriting team, with more than fifteen films to their credit. But none of their collaborative efforts were as memorable—nor as lucrative—as the Academy Award-nominated A Star Is Born. This original version remains a classic, and proved to be one of the most successful releases of what was then the recently formed Selznick International Pictures. An amazing document for a Technicolor classic. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
