A month before accepting the Nobel Peace Prize

TLS signed “G. C. Marshall,” one page, 7 x 9, personal Office of the General of the Army letterhead, November 12, 1953. Letter to Brigadier General Morris C. Troper, in full: "Thank you very much for your warm and friendly letter of November 1, and for your generous expression of the honor paid me by the Norwegian Nobel Institute. It was very thoughtful of you to be so generous in your 'first credits.'" In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Marshall's ambitious plan for rebuilding Europe in the aftermath of World War II earned him the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 1953, making him the only career officer in the United States Army to ever receive this honor.
