Description

Union general (1826-1885) hailed at the beginning of the Civil War as the 'Young Napoleon,' who was defeated for the presidency in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln. Civil War-dated ALS signed “Geo. B. McClellan,” one page, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, February 8, 1865. In part: "I cannot leave England without expressing to you my sincere thanks for your kindness in calling today, & my great regret that I was so unfortunate as to be absent when you were here. We leave tomorrow, but intend to spend several weeks in England before returning to America." In fine condition, with some light foxing.
