Dr. Martin D. Breckstein

A cherry red, 66 Corvette convertible rounded the cul-de-sac, with Beethoven blaring, but before pulling into the driveway, stopped in front of the wagon wheel mailbox. The driver eagerly opened the mailbox and grinned with excitement upon discovering the manilla envelope inside. The Abraham Lincoln autograph he had been waiting for had finally arrived!

Dr. Martin D. Breckstein, was a family man and dentist who practiced in the nation's capital for nearly a half century. Marty was born during the Great Depression and grew up during the second World War. Stationed in Japan for two years, he proudly served his country as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Breckstein enjoyed world travel, sports, art, fine wine and classical music, but his greatest passion was learning and reading about U.S. military and political history. If you were lucky enough to have a conversation with Marty, you would definitely learn something new and fascinating about the history of our great country. In this regard, Marty left an indelible imprint on his beloved wife, children and grandkids. Wanting to have his own tangible piece of history, Dr. Breckstein began pursuing a personal collection of presidential autographs in the early 70’s.

Through years of dedication, meticulous research and authentication, by well respected experts in the industry, Marty compiled a collection of exceptional, autographed documents of the first 41 U.S. heads of state. He enjoyed the journey of collecting just as much as the achievement of completing his compilation. Dr. Breckstein took great pride and joy in prominently displaying this personal, one-of-a-kind collection in his home for family, friends and visitors to enjoy and learn from on a daily basis.
