Description

"The Buck Stops Here"—"The buck can be passed from one person to another all up and down the line, but when it reaches the President's desk, it can go no farther without the President's neglecting the responsibilities of his great office"

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, February 6, 1958. Letter to Wayne M. McCann, in part: "In reply to your letter of January 31st, I always kept on my desk in the White House a sign reading, 'The Buck Stops Here.' The President is the chief officer of the Executive branch of the government, and the success, or failure, of his administration rests on his shoulders alone. The buck can be passed from one person to another all up and down the line, but when it reaches the President's desk, it can go no farther without the President's neglecting the responsibilities of his great office." In fine condition.
