Description

Alan Shepard’s Apollo-era ‘Travel Memorandum’ form from the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas, one page, 8 x 10.5, dated October 2, 1969, for earlier trips in August, filled out in pencil by Shepard, who signs his surname in the upper ‘Name’ field. Shepard annotates a trip from Houston to Cocoa Beach, Florida, on August 24, 1969, and a return from Cocoa Beach to Houston on August 25, 1969, both taken via “Gov Air.” In the field below, Shepard writes: “Rental car – 17 mi personal / 1 Gov’t lunch – 8/25.” He then ticks boxes in the lower section indicating that government quarters were not furnished and that no advance was received.

Included is the referenced NASA “General Travel Authorization,” issued to “Alan B. Shepard, Jr.,” with travel scheduled from August 24–26, 1969, between Houston and Cocoa Beach, with the purpose listed as “Apollo 14 activities,” as well as Shepard’s “Travel Voucher,” with a “Schedule of Expenses and Amounts Claimed” printed on the reverse, recording his August 24–25 itinerary between the Manned Spacecraft Center, Ellington Air Force Base, and Cocoa Beach, including government air travel, rental-car mileage, and a government-provided lunch on August 25. In overall fine condition.
