Group of four Beta patches removed from Al Worden's Apollo 12 close-out suit, worn while preparing the spacecraft as part of the mission's backup crew. The patches range in size from 3.5˝ x 3.5˝ to 7˝ x 7˝, and include two NASA 'meatball' logos, the flag of the United States, and the Apollo 12 mission insignia; each patch is signed in black felt tip, "Al Worden." Includes a handwritten note to Worden by crew equipment supervisor Tom Kenyon, in full: "Dear al, These are the patches off your close-out garment. Best of luck on your next mission." In overall fine condition.
As backup command module pilot for Apollo 12, Al Worden participated in the intensive training and launch preparations that supported the mission, gaining experience that would carry into his own flight aboard Apollo 15 in 1971. Removed directly from his close-out garment, these signed Beta cloth patches offer a link to Worden’s role in Apollo 12 and to the behind-the-scenes work of the backup crew in preparing a lunar mission for launch.
