Description

Vintage color satin-finish 4.5 x 7 candid photo of Charlie Chaplin in later age, signed in blue felt tip. The reverse bears "A Kodak Paper" watermarks and collector's notations indicating that the photograph was taken at the Los Angeles International Airport on April 12, 1972. In fine condition, with small surface impressions below the signature.

From the autograph collection of Ilia Gonzalez, who began collecting as a child in Santa Monica after discovering celebrities rehearsing for the Academy Awards at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. As an adult, Gonzalez photographed celebrities at award shows, movie premieres, television tapings, parades, fundraisers, and other events, often obtaining their autographs directly on her photographs, sometimes with the help of her mother. With the exception of this Charlie Chaplin photograph, which Gonzalez later mailed to Chaplin in Switzerland and received back signed, the signed photographs in her collection were obtained in her presence.
