The 1945 musical romantic comedy Anchors Aweigh, directed by George Sidney, stars Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Kathryn Grayson, with songs by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn and a supporting cast that includes José Iturbi and Dean Stockwell. The film follows two sailors on four-day shore leave in Hollywood who become involved with an aspiring singer and attempt to secure her an audition with pianist and conductor Iturbi at MGM. Among its most famous sequences is Kelly’s dance with the animated Jerry Mouse of Tom and Jerry. A critical and commercial success, Anchors Aweigh received five Academy Award nominations and won for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.
