Description

ALS signed “Ted,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, 'Cat in the Hat' stationery, no date (1975). Handwritten letter to "Hub," in full: "Thank you for your most pleasant letter which brought back a flock of pleasant memories. And I gather you had just as wonderful a time in Hanover this summer as I did during my 50th Reunion in June. I’m only sorry the two visits didn’t coincide!" Dr. Seuss adds a speech bubble to the Cat in the Hat image: "Me, I can lick the average Side-Hill-Gudgeon with one paw tied behind my back!” In fine condition, with a couple of faint spots of dampstaining.

A member of Dartmouth's Class of 1925, Geisel returned to Hanover that June for the class's 50th reunion, which concluded on June 8th after three days of festivities. The occasion also featured a special Dr. Seuss exhibition at Baker Library, filling 17 exhibit cases with material tracing his career from his student days at Dartmouth through his celebrated children's books.
