STS-51-D Medical Checklist [Attested Flown] - From the Personal Collection of William E. Thornton

Description

Complete ring-bound STS-51-D "Medical Checklist," attested as flown on the Space Shuttle Discovery from April 12, 1985–April 19, 1985, totaling 106 pages, separated into six white-tabbed sections: "Emergencies," "General Med," "Illustrations," "Drug Side Effects," "Stowage," and "Med DSOs." Inside the back cover are various notations pertaining to the administration of medication during the mission. The front and back covers feature red stripes affixed along the edge, and a Beta cloth "Medical C/L" binding; three Velcro swatches are affixed to the reverse of the rear plastic cover. In fine condition, with light wear from use.

This medical checklist served as the Space Shuttle Discovery crew’s primary in-orbit reference for handling illnesses, injuries, medications, and medical emergencies during the seven-day mission. Its sections cover everything from general treatment procedures and drug side effects to medical kit stowage, while the handwritten medication notations provide tangible evidence of its operational use in space.
