Two items attested to as flown in the hand of astronaut William E. Thornton, who writes in black felt tip on the back of the Altoids tin in which they are stored: "Tape flown on SL 2?, 3 & 4 and STS (all) until tool kit put aboard. Tourniquet used on myself—STS-8." The measuring tape is a small 8-ft. "Chieftain No. 78" by Disston Carlson, with a white swatch of Velcro affixed to the reverse; the tourniquet is a folded piece of thin rubber tubing, presumably used during Thornton's biomedical experiments on STS-8. In overall very good to fine condition.
