Flown 10K gold STS-1 Robbins medallion, approximately 1.5˝ in diameter, with a raised design on the face featuring the mission insignia for the Space Shuttle Columbia's inaugural flight. The reverse is encircled by the names of the astronauts, John Young and Bob Crippen, and is engraved with the launch date of April 12, 1981, and landing date of April 14, 1981. The medallion is serial numbered "19F" on the edge, and stamped with the Robbins "10K" hallmark. Condition is mint state. Includes its original plastic case with stiff blue liner.
Of the 34 gold STS-1 Robbins medallions minted, only the first 24 examples were flown. As one of just two dozen gold medallions carried on the historic maiden flight of the Space Shuttle program, this piece represents an especially significant and extremely limited artifact from one of the defining milestones in American spaceflight.
