Two unflown Robbins medallions from the personal collection of astronaut William E. Thornton, representing both of his spaceflights. Condition is mint state, and both are housed in their original plastic cases; the STS-8 case has a cracked lid and broken hinge. Includes:
STS-8 Robbins Medallion
Unflown sterling silver STS-8 Robbins medallion, approximately 1.5˝ in diameter, with a raised design on the face featuring the mission insignia—the night launch of Space Shuttle Challenger. The reverse is encircled by the names of the five astronauts and is engraved with the launch date of August 30, 1983, and the landing date of September 5, 1983. Serial numbered "210" on the edge, and marked with the Robbins "Sterling" hallmark.
STS-51-B Robbins Medallion
Unflown sterling silver STS-51-B Robbins medallion, approximately 1.5˝ x 1.75˝, with a raised design on the face featuring the mission insignia—the Space Shuttle Challenger with its payload doors open to display the onboard Spacelab 3 module. The reverse is engraved with the launch date of April 29, 1985, and the landing date of May 6, 1985. Serial numbered "131" on the edge, and marked with the Robbins "Ster." hallmark.
