Breidenthal, in full: “After receiving your note I talked with my dad, and it seems that you did serve together during World War II. He, in turn, sends you his best regards. Thank you very much for your best wishes. I am sure that our trip will be an exciting, as well as very demanding, one.” In fine condition, with a couple of light stains. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
Written just five weeks before the launch of Apollo 11, the letter finds Aldrin anticipating the historic mission as both "exciting" and "very demanding." The personal connection is equally notable: Breidenthal had apparently served alongside Aldrin’s father, Edwin Eugene Aldrin Sr., during World War II. The younger Aldrin followed his father into a military career, graduating from West Point and serving as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot during the Korean War before joining NASA’s astronaut corps in 1963.
