Exceedingly rare menu from the "Astronaut Appreciation Dinner" sponsored by Omega and held at the Hotel Warwick in Houston, Texas, on November 25, 1969, measuring 8 x 10 closed, signed on the back cover in ink by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, John Young, Dave Scott, Gene Cernan, Tom Stafford, Gordon Cooper, James McDivitt, and Rusty Schweickart. At this dinner, the special edition gold Apollo XI commemorative Omega Speedmaster watches were presented to the astronauts active at the time; three were also posthumously awarded to the families of the Apollo 1 crew.
The front cover features the Omega logo and an illustration of the Saturn V launch vehicle. The menu lists the honored guests on the back cover, and the dinner menu inside—Filet of Red Snapper Marguery Under Glass, Green Turtle Soup, Hunt Room Salad, Filet de Boeuf Wellington, Bouquetiere de Legumes, and Omelette Norwegian. In very good to fine condition, with light scattered soiling.
Only 60 or 70 people are estimated to have been at Omega's historic dinner tribute to the success of Apollo 11, making this an extremely scarce menu.
From the Haltom Family Estate: accompanied by Hotel Warwick dinner place cards for "Mr. Robert Haltom," "Mrs. Robert Haltom," "Scott Grissom," and "Mrs. Michael Collins," an Apollo 11 art medal struck by the Medallic Art Co., and an oversized boxed set of souvenir color photographs commemorating Apollo 11, housed in a special box depicting the lunar surface, with folder inside bearing the facsimile signatures of the Apollo 11 crew and a presentation statement: "This souvenir box is dedicated by Omega to its friends in commemoration of the most sensational exploit of all times, during which Omega became the first watch ever worn on the moon." The set features a four-page introduction, plus 20 images from the American space program printed on high-gloss 15.25 x 19.25 paperstock: among these are images of Earth from space, the iconic Apollo 11 lunar footprint, and the classic 'visor shot' photograph of Buzz Aldrin during his EVA. Also includes a presentation card from the Norman M. Morris Corporation, a distributor of Omega watches in the United States." The box is scuffed and the inner folder is foxed, but the photos remain in very good to fine condition, with rippling to the edges.
