Financial agreement between the 17-year-old Lana Turner, her mother and legal guardian Mildred Turner, and the William Morris Agency, executed just eighteen months after Turner's breakthrough and while she was under contract with MGM. Signed at the conclusion in ink by Turner using her birth name, professionally known as "Lana Turner," by her mother, Mildred Turner, and by a representative of the William Morris Agency. Attached is the original one-page "Exhibit A," itemizing $4,794.37 in financial advances made on behalf of Turner and her family, including living expenses, medical bills, clothing purchases, loans, and professional obligations. In fine condition, with paper loss to the upper left corner.
A remarkable glimpse into the business side of Hollywood's Golden Age, the agreement identifies Turner as "a minor of the age of seventeen (17) years" and acknowledges her existing contract for acting services, dated February 12, 1937, which had been assigned to Loew's Incorporated (MGM). The William Morris Agency agrees to satisfy nearly $4,800 in obligations incurred by Turner and her family, an enormous sum for the era, in exchange for repayment from the young actress. The attached accounting ledger details payments to hospitals, physicians, retailers, creditors, and entertainment professionals, providing an unusually intimate record of the financial investment made in launching one of Hollywood's brightest rising stars.
