Description

Baltimore lawyer (1779–1843) who was inspired to write the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British in 1814. Manuscript DS, signed “F. S. Key,” one page, 4.25 x 3.25, 1807. Small manuscript legal memorandum relating to Christian Shoemaker, with notations concerning the entry of a legal release, signed at the conclusion by Francis Scott Key. Expertly double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait bearing a facsimile signature to an overall size of 24 x 18. In fine condition.
