Hancock endorses a pre-war promissory note, in full: "The principal of the within note, & the Endorsements settled in Acco'tt with Mr. Will'm Barnard, Sept'r 28, 1789." Additional endorsements above by William Palfrey and William Bart, dated June 10, 1777, and February 24, 1778, confirm receipt of payments; a docketing notation to the left side notes the date of the original note as February 15, 1770—just 18 days before the Boston Massacre. Corner-mounted over a facsimile copy of the Declaration of Independence, an engraved portrait (boasting a facsimile signature), and related images to an overall size of 31 x 27. In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, show-through from writing to reverse, and chipping to edges.
