Description

Scarce autograph of Raoul Wallenberg, creator of the lifesaving 'Schutz-Pass'

Swedish architect, businessman, and diplomat (1912–disappeared 1945) who rescued tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust by issuing protective passports and establishing safe houses in Nazi-occupied Budapest. Arrested by Soviet forces in January 1945, Wallenberg vanished into the Soviet prison system, and the circumstances of his fate remain uncertain. Desirable ink signature, "R. Wallenberg," on an off-white 2.5 x 2 slip clipped from the close of a letter. Archivally corner-mounted, cloth-matted, and framed with two images to an overall size of 13.5 x 21.75. In fine condition, with a horizontal mailing fold between the two lines of type.
