Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry 'Butch O'Hare (1914–1943) was an American naval aviator of the United States Navy, who became the first naval recipient of the Medal of Honor in World War II. He was lost over the Pacific while leading the U.S. Navy's first-ever nighttime fighter attack launched from an aircraft carrier. Rare vintage pencil signature, "E. H. O'Hare,” on an off-white 5 x 2.25 slip, dated May 6, 1942, in another hand. Archivally corner-mounted, matted, and framed with a commemorative cover and replica patch to an overall size of 14 x 19.5. In very good condition, with light staining and several vertical folds.
