TLS in German, signed “A. Einstein,” one page, 8.25 x 6.25, blindstamped personal Princeton letterhead, November 3, 1941. Letter to a friend in New York, in full (translated): "I have an engagement in New York on the evening of November 13th, and I hope to visit you at your home on that day or the following day. I am very much looking forward to it." Attractively double-matted and framed to an overall size of 15.5 x 14. In fine condition.
Provenance: Lot 32, Christie's, May 23, 2019; the lot description notes that Einstein was writing to Otto Juliusburger (1867-1952), a distinguished psychiatrist and expert on Spinoza and Schopenhauer. He had been a close friend of Einstein's in Berlin since the years of the First World War, and remained there until his remarkably delayed emigration in the summer of 1941. This was to be one of their earliest meetings since Einstein's own enforced exile from Germany in 1933.
