Description

The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs business check, 8.25 x 3, filled out in type and signed by and Bart Giamatti, "A. Bartlett Giamatti," payable to Blake Cullen for $109.75, December 18, 1986, signed later at the top in red felt tip, "Pete Rose." In fine condition, with a PSA/DNA label affixed to the reverse. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from PSA/DNA.

In 1989, Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti commissioned the Dowd Report, which concluded that Cincinnati Reds manager Pete Rose had repeatedly wagered on baseball games, including games involving his own team. On August 24, Rose accepted permanent placement on baseball’s ineligible list under an agreement with Giamatti, bringing the career of the sport’s all-time hits leader to a stunning and controversial end.
