Description

Dutch Beatles Fan Club magazine signed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their historic Amsterdam 'Bed-In for Peace' honeymoon

Dutch Beatles Fan Club magazine from October 1968, entitled “Beatles Biografie,” seven pages, 6 x 8.5, signed on the front cover in ballpoint by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained during the time John and Yoko were at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel, in Amsterdam, Holland, conducting their famous 'Bed-In for Peace' following their marriage in Gibraltar on March 20, 1969. The couple had originally planned to wed in Paris, although as non-residents they did not qualify under French law. Knowing their marriage would be a huge press event, Lennon and Ono decided to use the publicity to promote world peace. They famously spent their honeymoon in the Presidential Suite, Room 902 (later renumbered 702 and now marketed by the hotel as the John and Yoko Honeymoon Suite), at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel for a week between March 25 and 31, 1969, while inviting the world's press into their hotel room every day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Included is a modern photographic print depicting Lennon signing a stack of copies of the same Dutch Beatles Fan Club magazine, with this example identified as one of the copies in the stack. In fine condition, with a small stain to the bottom edge.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “In March 1969 I had the opportunity to visit John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel during their Bed In. I was invited as being the secretary of the Dutch Beatles Fan Club. At that special occasion, they signed this Dutch Fan Club magazine for me…I started the Dutch Beatles Fan Club in November 1963. I was the ‘president’ of this Fan Club till 1979. In 1982 I made a book about the Beatles: ‘The Beatles Diary,’ published by Plexus in 1983 and in the USA by Perigree.
