Description

British Airways Concorde in-flight menu for a 1980 London-to-New York supersonic service, measures 12 x 10.5 open, signed inside in black ballpoint by Paul McCartney. The menu retains its original blue tassel cord. Mounted to a 21 x 24 display board with affixed captions indicating that the menu was signed on board the flight on January 12, 1980, as well as information related to McCartney’s arrest four days later, on January 16th. In fine condition.

In January 1980, while traveling to Japan with Wings, McCartney was arrested at Tokyo's Narita Airport after customs officials discovered approximately eight ounces of cannabis in his luggage. He spent nine days in jail before the charges were dropped and he was deported, forcing the cancellation of Wings' long-awaited 11-city tour of Japan. Although McCartney quickly resumed his solo career, Wings never toured again, and the aborted Japanese tour is widely regarded as the beginning of the band's final chapter.
