Longtime Chicago Outfit boss (1907-1997) known as ‘Joey Doves,’ who succeeded Sam Battaglia as the organization's leader in 1971. He remained one of the Outfit's most powerful figures until his 1986 conviction in the notorious Las Vegas casino skimming case, which effectively ended his reign. Custom poker set owned by longtime Chicago Outfit boss Joseph ‘Joey Doves’ Aiuppa, housed in a handsome wooden case, 11˝ x 3.5˝ x 8.25˝, with a textured leatherette lid fitted with an engraved brass nameplate reading "J. J. Aiuppa." The interior contains 249 engraved poker chips—150 white, 50 red, and 49 blue—each monogrammed "JAJ," along with two factory-sealed Savoy Club de Luxe playing card decks by Taylor & Co. of Chicago. The underside of the case bears an Autopoint Company maker's mark, identifying it as a product of the Chicago manufacturer. In fine condition, with some peeling to the leatherette lid, light scuffs and marks to the wood, and one missing blue chip. A distinctive personalized gaming set from one of the most powerful leaders in the history of the Chicago Outfit.
