Description

Old West outlaw (1844–1916) associated with Jesse James as a leader of the James-Younger Gang, who eventually turned from a life of crime to Wild West shows and public speaking. Vintage ink signature, "Cole Younger,” on an off-white 3.25 x 1.25 sheet. Archivally matted and framed with a photo of Younger to an overall size of 9.5 x 14.25. In fine condition. The photograph depicts Younger after being captured in September 1876. Younger's face is visibly swollen from a bullet wound sustained during the shootout outside the First National Bank of Northfield, Minnesota, following the failed James-Younger Gang raid. Captured two days later near Madelia, he and his surviving brothers were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Minnesota State Prison.
