Document headed, "Running Order and Breakdown of Groups Appearing in the N.M.E. Poll Winners Concert, Wembley, 11th April, 1965," three pages, 8 x 13, listing artists, set lists, and runtimes for groups including The Moody Blues, Freddie and the Dreamers, Herman's Hermits, The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, Donovan, Them, Tom Jones, The Beatles, The Animals, The Searchers, and The Kinks. Signed in black ink by several of the performers, including: The Rolling Stones (Charlie Watts, Brian Jones, and Keith Richards), Herman's Hermits (Peter Noone, Derek Leckenby, Keith Hopwood, and Barry Whitwam), Cilla Black, The Mindbenders (Bob Lang and Ric Rothwell), Donovan, and Tom Jones. The Rolling Stones were allotted an eight-minute set, to include their original song "The Last Time"; they also played covers of the blues and R&B classics 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love,' 'Pain in My Heart,' and 'Around and Around.' In very good condition, with moderately heavy handling wear, intersecting folds, soiling, edge tears, small areas of paper loss, and tape reinforcements to the reverse of the third page.
This running order for the 1965 N.M.E. Poll Winners Concert captures a defining moment in the British beat boom, when Wembley gathered many of the era’s biggest pop and rock acts on a single bill. Featuring The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, Dusty Springfield, Donovan, Tom Jones, and others, the document reflects the extraordinary concentration of talent dominating the mid-1960s charts. Enhanced by signatures from several of the performers, it stands as both a working production document and a remarkable autograph piece from one of Britain’s most celebrated pop showcases.
