Signed book: Pablo Picasso by Wilhelm Boeck. First edition. Stuttgart: Verlag W. Kohlhammer, 1955. Hardcover with dust jacket, 8.5 x 12, 524 pages. Signed on the title page in green crayon, "Pour Gottfried Dierdorf, Picasso, le 3.4.62." Picasso adds a playful sketch of flower/sun-like figure with anthropomorphic features, in his loose, spontaneous hand. Autographic condition: fine. Book condition: VG+/VG, with a bit of creasing to the dust jacket's edges, and a crease to the front flap.
Published in 1955, Boeck’s substantial monograph was among the major postwar studies to present Picasso’s career in full, from the Blue and Rose periods through Cubism, neoclassicism, and his later graphic and sculptural work. The present copy is made especially desirable by Picasso’s vivid green-crayon inscription and exuberant drawing, transforming the title page into a personal presentation piece with the same immediacy and wit that animate his drawings, prints, and ceramics of the period.
