Description

Massachusetts lawyer (1731-1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Partly-printed ADS, signed “Paine,” one page both sides, 8 x 7, July 22, 1769. An order to the sheriff of Bristol County "to Attach the Goods or Estate of Samuel Holloway of Middleborough in the same county labourer & James Strobridge of said Middleboro yeoman…to the Value of Sixty Pounds" because of an unpaid debt. The front of the document is filled out with approximately three hundred words in Paine's hand, and the reverse is endorsed by him in the lower left corner. In fine condition.
