Vintage pencil and ballpoint signatures of the Beatles on two separate sheets — “John Lennon, To Penny, xxx” and “To Penny, Love from George Harrison, xxx,” on an off-white 3 x 4 address page; and “Love from the Beatles, Paul McCartney, xxx,” “Ringo Starr, xxx,” and “George Harrison, xxx,” on an off-white 3.75 x 4 sheet. The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained at the Floral Hall in Morecambe, England, on August 29, 1962, less than two weeks after Ringo had joined the group. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and soiling. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a letter of provenance from the daughter of the original recipient: “My mum was at Art College as a student of 17 years in 1961/62 when she attended the Beatles concert held in the Floral Hall, Morecambe in August 1962 when she obtained autographs.”
On August 29, 1962, the Beatles appeared at the Floral Hall Ballroom in Morecambe, Lancashire, for the first of two engagements at the venue. The performance took place just eleven days after Ringo Starr joined the group, making it one of the earliest appearances by the classic Beatles lineup. The group returned to Floral Hall for a second and final appearance on January 18, 1963, during the period immediately preceding their national breakthrough and the onset of Beatlemania.
