Description

Handwritten book report by Eddie Cochran for “English VI,” a school assignment likely dating to the early 1950s, when the future rock-and-roll pioneer was in his early teens, penned on both sides of an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet of notebook paper, signed in the upper right corner, “Eddie Cochran, English VI, 29,” and headed below, “Book Report.” The report concerns Bill Mauldin's celebrated World War II memoir and cartoon collection Up Front, identifying the author, publisher, publication date, genre, and subject matter before summarizing the book's depiction of infantry life and military morale. Cochran concludes the assignment with a handwritten vocabulary list featuring terms drawn from the text, including “Ordnance,” “Claustrophobia,” “Plagiarists,” and “Boisterous.” In fine condition.

Original handwritten schoolwork by Eddie Cochran is scarce. By January 1955, Cochran had left Bell Gardens High School during his first year to pursue a career in music full time, a decision that quickly led to his emergence as one of rock and roll's most influential early performers.
