English actor (1877–1959) best remembered for his role as Kris Kringle in the Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10.5 portrait of Edmund Gwenn smoking a cigarette by photographer Janet Jevons, signed and inscribed in bold fountain pen, “To Vivian, with best wishes, Edmund Gwenn.” In very fine condition, with some faint silvering to darker areas.
