Description

Labor union activist (born 1913) and leader of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters who mysteriously vanished in 1975, presumed to have been murdered due to relations with organized crime. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 portrait photo of Jimmy Hoffa wearing a suit and tie, signed in ballpoint, “James R. Hoffa.” The photo is also signed by Hoffa’s closest confidant, Robert ‘Bobby’ Holmes. In fine condition, with a small crease to the lower right corner tip. The consignor notes that the photograph originated from the personal collection of their father, a Michigan State Representative and prominent labor advocate who maintained personal relationships with both Hoffa and Holmes through his legislative and labor-related activities. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Holmes (d. 2006) was a pioneering Teamsters Union leader who helped organize one of Jimmy Hoffa's earliest labor actions in Detroit and remained a close associate of Hoffa throughout much of his career. As president of Teamsters Local 337, director of the Central Conference, and an International Vice President, Holmes became one of the most influential labor figures in the Midwest and a steadfast defender of Hoffa's legacy long after his disappearance in 1975.
