Description

"My head has been bowed by a ruthless tempest of work entailed by my world tour"

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, July 26, 1955. Letter to Eugene Blackford, in part: "It was a great pleasure to receive Mrs. Blackford's and your birthday congratulations and warm wishes, and I should have thanked you before, but my head has been bowed by a ruthless tempest of work entailed by my world tour ever since Polly Thomson and I returned to Westport. However, no amount of hard work could dim the lustre of my natal day. For it brought the grateful feeling that God had granted Polly's and my wish to travel around the globe for the welfare and happiness of the handicapped, and I am confident that their rehabilitation will move forward more quickly now. I was pleased to hear of your trip from Athens to Samothrace. Perhaps you will tell us about your experiences in that land where gods and men once walked together, and beauty and joy kept perpetual carnival." In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
