Description

“It may well be the single most important book you'll ever read”—Bobby Fischer recommends the Protocols of the Elders of Zion in a controversial 1983 letter

TLS signed “Bobby,” one page, 6 x 9, February 18, 1983. Addressed from Los Angeles, a letter to Adam Robinson, in full: “Dear Adam, how are you? I'm fine. Thanks for your letters over the years, sorry I haven't gotten around to answering them until now! I got your most recent letter a few days ago, and since I've [got] this new typewriter/word processor I decided it's time to write you at last. Is this Lexington Ave. address the same one I was up at back about '71? I think you wrote me some time back that you were studying in England right? Did you say you were studying math, or higher mathematics? Sorry about your dad. Adam, don't believe anything you read about me anywhere it's all controlled by the Learned Elders of Zion, this foremost group of superrich Jews, the authors of the Protocols of the Wise Men of the Learned Elders of Zion. I highly recommend you read it. The ‘Protocols’ are banned from the Public Libraries, but you can get them for $4.00 from: Omni Publications, P.O. Box 216, Hawthorne, Calif. 90250.

This incredible document explains the 'conspiracy' you've heard so much about and the fiendish plan of the Jews to take over the world. Omni also has a lot of other really excellent anti-jewish books at the cheapest prices around. Once you read the 'Protocols' everything comes into focus! It may well be the single most important book you'll ever read, believe it. Incidentally, did you read my new booklet entitled: ‘I was tortured in the Pasadena jailhouse’? I enjoyed those long walks & talks we had thru the grimy N.Y.C. streets. Well that's it Adam, keep this letter confidential O.K.? I like my privacy you know. All the very best to you Adam.”

Includes an original copy of Fischer’s referenced booklet, ‘I was Tortured in the Pasadena Jailhouse!,’ and an original hotel telephone message slip addressed to “Bobby Fischer,” dated April 3, 1972, and bearing a callback number for “Walter Robinson” and “Adam Robinson.” The message slip suggests contact between Fischer and Adam Robinson more than a decade before the present letter was written. In fine condition.

Accompanied by a group of chess-related ephemera assembled by Adam Robinson, including numerous Soviet and American chess magazines and newsletters, a VHS copy of The Fischer Interviews by Dimitrije Bjelica, and other reference materials associated with Fischer and the chess world.

Written in 1983, this letter dates from a period in which Bobby Fischer had become increasingly isolated from organized chess and was publicly expressing many of the conspiratorial and anti-Jewish views that would come to define much of his later life. Central to the letter is Fischer’s endorsement of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the notorious antisemitic forgery first published in the Russian Empire in the early twentieth century and widely discredited by historians. Fischer not only recommends the work to Robinson but also directs him to a distributor of anti-Jewish literature and describes the book as “the single most important book you'll ever read.” Together with the included copy of I Was Tortured in the Pasadena Jailhouse!, the letter provides a revealing glimpse into Fischer’s worldview and personal circumstances during the years between his withdrawal from competitive chess and his eventual reemergence for the 1992 Fischer–Spassky rematch.
