Description

French neoclassical sculptor (1741–1828) famous for his portrait busts and statues of philosophers, inventors, and political figures of the Enlightenment, including Rousseau and Voltaire. Scarce ADS signed "Houdon," one page, 7 x 4.5, May 26, 1800. Houdon pens a receipt in which he attests to having received from Citizens Moliere, Contremoulin and Texier the sum of two hundred and sixty-seven francs and thirty centimes, being the net total of the repayment of two-thirds of his annuity plus the interest for the first six months." In fine condition.
