ALS, one page, 6.75 x 9, August 15, 1964. Handwritten letter from Bill Wyman to fan Lindsay Malone, written at the height of the group’s first wave of international success. In full: “Many thanks for a very nice letter that I apologize for not answering soon. Glad you like us so much, & I hope you continue to do so. Everyone here is well + happy, we are hitting the charts in America, Canada, France, Holland + Greece at present – it’s all happening. Hope you manage to see our show at Cheltenham in Sept/Oct tour of England, & enjoy it too. Sorry, I have no hair for you but I’m growing it again at present. Hope this letter makes up for it. Thanks again for writing, hope you like the new E.P. – look after yourself + keep smiling.” In fine condition, with old tape stains to the corners.
Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and a period glossy photograph depicting Wyman exiting a car. A warm early fan correspondence penned during the Rolling Stones’ explosive breakout year of 1964, as the band rapidly expanded from British rhythm-and-blues hopefuls into an international phenomenon. Given the date, the “new E.P.” reference almost certainly refers to the Rolling Stones’ Five by Five EP, released just one day before this letter was written on August 14, 1964.
