Description

Original vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 glamour photograph of the young Marilyn Monroe, then known as Norma Jean Dougherty, posing beside a leopard-print backdrop while holding a bottle of Frank & Joseph Creme Shampoo, captured by H. Maier Studios of Los Angeles during the 1940s. In fine condition, with a small surface crease touching the bottle. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA, certifying it as an authentic “Type I” photograph.

In December 1945, model Norma Jeane was chosen by the Blue Book agency to pose for a shampoo advertisement sponsored by Frank & Joseph's Beauty Salon. When the young model arrived, photographer Raphael Wolff agreed to the shoot on the condition that her hair be bleached golden blonde. Though hesitant, Norma Jeane was persuaded by her agent, Emmeline Snively, who said that ‘going blonde’ would boost her career. At Frank and Joseph’s salon on Wilshire Boulevard, hairstylist Sylvia Barnhart gradually transformed the model’s ‘brown and frizzy’ hair to an ash blonde color over a span of eight months in 1946.
