Lebanese-American artist and writer (1883-1931) best known for his writings on religion and for his best-selling 1923 spiritual-philosophical classic The Prophet. Original vintage signed pencil sketch of a face with closed eyes, accomplished by Kahlil Gibran on an off-white 6.75 x 10 sheet, signed and inscribed in the lower right corner to pioneering woman journalist Marie Mattingly Meloney, "To Missy with my love, Kahlil, 1928." The face is rendered with soft, atmospheric shading and spare linear contours. The closed eyes, downturned mouth, and ghostly unfinished forms give the drawing a quiet, introspective, almost dreamlike quality. In fine condition, with a small stain and chip to the top edge.
