Exquisite ring-binder wedding album produced by Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III as a commemorative gift following their celebrated April 19, 1956, royal wedding, presented as the personally inscribed copy given to Grace's sister, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Kelly Conlan, and her husband, George Conlan. The elegant gilt-stamped white leather album, 10.5˝ x 11.5˝, opens with a presentation page handwritten by Grace and signed below by both her and her husband, Rainier: “To Peggy and George, with our love – Grace, Christmas, 1956,” and “Rainier.”
The album contains 46 original matte-finish photographs, ranging in size from 6.75˝ x 9˝ to 10.25˝ x 8˝, documenting virtually every stage of the festivities—from the Kelly family's arrival in Monaco and the civil and religious ceremonies to formal portraits, intimate family moments, the wedding breakfast, dancing, fireworks over Monaco Harbor, and celebrations surrounding one of the twentieth century's most famous royal weddings. The majority of the photographs bear photographer credits or negative identifiers, including reverse stamps from Howell Conant, Grace Kelly's longtime photographer, and front or reverse credits to Fausto Picedi of Monte Carlo, whose work extensively documented the royal wedding. In overall fine condition, with trivial edgewear to photos, and some light marks and scuffs to the album.
Presented as a Christmas gift only months after the royal wedding, this album was inscribed by Grace and Rainier to Grace's sister and brother-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Kelly Conlan and George Conlan. Their marriage transformed the Academy Award-winning Hollywood actress into Princess of Monaco and became one of the defining international media events of the 1950s, attracting an estimated 30 million television viewers worldwide.
