Scarce color satin-finish 6 x 8.25 photo of the future Pope Leo XVI as cardinal, signed in black felt tip, "R. F. Prevost." In very fine condition. Consignor notes that the autograph was obtained in person in Rome during a cardinal reunion. Even during his time as Cardinal, his signature was considered challenging to obtain as he often refused to sign autographs. Prior to becoming Cardinal in 2023, he served for a few years in a mostly unknown diocese in Peru and was not in public spotlight. An extremely scarce autograph of the first American pope.
