Signed on the front wrapper in black felt tip, "Buzz Aldrin." The Senate report was "Prepared for the Use of the Committee on Aeronautical and Space Sciences, United States Senate, by the Legislative Reference Service and The Library of Congress." In very good to fine condition, with wear to the spine, and light soiling to the covers.

Legal Problems of Space Exploration: A Symposium, published by the U.S. Senate in 1961 at the request of Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, was a landmark Cold War-era report examining the legal questions raised by humanity’s entry into space. Issued just weeks before Yuri Gagarin’s first orbital flight and Alan Shepard’s first American suborbital flight, the volume considered issues such as national sovereignty beyond Earth, surveillance from orbit, the military and diplomatic consequences of spaceflight, and whether celestial bodies like the moon could be claimed by nations. The symposium reflects the urgency of the Space Race, as lawmakers sought to anticipate the legal framework needed for exploration, competition, and cooperation in outer space.
