Stage-worn A.B.S. (Allen Schwartz) tapestry-pattern blazer worn by bassist Gail Ann Dorsey during Tears for Fears' performance at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., on October 12, 1993, as part of the band's Elemental world tour. The American-made size 10 blazer is tailored in a richly woven tapestry-style jacquard featuring repeating heraldic-inspired geometric motifs in burgundy, navy, olive green, and gold, accented by a black velvet notched collar, matching velvet pocket flaps and turned-back cuffs, and a bronze satin lining. Interior labels read "a.b.s. USA," "Made in the U.S.A.," and "Size 10." In fine condition, with fading below the right pocket from stage-worn use.
On October 12, 1993, Tears for Fears brought their Elemental world tour to D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., with Roland Orzabal leading the band's first major tour following the departure of co-founder Curt Smith. The concert featured material from the acclaimed Elemental album alongside many of the group's defining hits, including 'Woman in Chains,' 'Head Over Heels,' 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World,' and 'Shout.' Gail Ann Dorsey served as bassist and vocalist in the touring lineup, a role that marked a pivotal point in her career and led directly to her subsequent collaborations with David Bowie.
Although no official live album or concert film was released from the Washington performance, contemporary video footage of the concert, including the band's performance of 'Woman in Chains' available on YouTube, clearly documents Gail Ann Dorsey wearing the offered blazer onstage. Her fluid bass playing and distinctive backing vocals provide the rhythmic foundation for the performance, capturing Dorsey during a pivotal period in her career.
