Description

The architect explains his masterpiece—Eiffel signs a booklet on his "Tour de 300 mètres"

Booklet entitled "Conférence de M. Eiffel sur la Tour de 300 mètres," published in Paris by Paul Dupont in 1889, 6.5 x 5.75, 36 pages with 7 illustrations (one fold-out), signed and inscribed on the front cover in ink, "Offert: Mad'elle Marguerite Cruyt, par G. Eiffel." The booklet contains Eiffel's lecture discussing the design, structural challenges, and construction process of the 300-meter tower built as the centerpiece for the 1889 World's Fair, plus images of its construction. In very good to fine condition, with soiling, toning, and slight edge chipping to the cover. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and a transmittal letter from Eiffel's secretary.

Issued the same year the Eiffel Tower debuted at the Exposition Universelle, this scarce presentation booklet captures Gustave Eiffel’s own contemporary account of his most ambitious achievement. Personally signed and inscribed by Eiffel, it reflects both the technical pride and public curiosity surrounding the revolutionary iron structure, which at the time stood as the tallest man-made construction in the world.
